      Let him score.

When you double him, he starts cooking. Let him get his numbers. Tighten up on everyone else.

Defend him like last time. Box and one and relentlessly force him to his right to limit drives and step back threes. And don’t reach and send him to the line.

Ehhhh, I never put too much credit in anonymous sources. Sam is usally a pretty straight shooter but The Atlantic ain’t making the money it thought it would and needs these sort of clickbait stories to get anyone to pay for their stories. I’ll wait and see how things look on the court. If they look like Atlanta then I’ll worry. If they look like Boston I think we’ll be OK.

    One little caveat about Kawhi.

He loves Alex Mckechnie. Whom the Raps pay a handsome salary to retain. A reason he might stay in TO.

I miss Alex, wish we still had him.

Learn your history. Spencer Haywood and what he fought for in the Supreme Court expunged from memory…nope. This enterprise is the only one in America where a 17 year old doesn’t have autonomy to pursue happiness.

      https://caselaw.findlaw.com/us-supreme-court/401/1204.html

      Why?

        No Haywood…

K.G. doesn’t necessarily have the same career.

        Ditto for Bryant.

        And LeBron.

Yup, a couple others sprinkled in there. Most don’t make a HOF career and most don’t last more than a few years. Kwame keeped getting dem checks. There’s hope for all 17 years old.

Kwame Brown is rich because of Spencer Haywood.

        Truth.

I’m more surprised the NFL gets a free pass on this. They got taken to court and won. Not exactly clear why Haywood’s case stood, but Clarett’s didn’t.

Haywood was originally allowed to play and the NBA challenged that ruling…the Justices went with precedent and allowed him to continue to play.

In Clarett’s case, it wasn’t the 9th Circuit, it was the 2nd circuit and it was an opinion judgment by Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

The Supreme Court was willing to hear from Haywood,

They denied to even hear Clarett and Mike Williams

By-Laws of NFL say you have to wait 3 years of playing to be Draft Eligible, at the time.

I think we can all agree, first on the offseason addendums is finding a gold star shooting coach.

    • LakerTom (Publisher) 1:42 PM on February 20, 2019 Permalink | Log in to Reply

I think we will see a lot of changes in Luke’s coaching staff. Besides a shooting coach, we could use a legitimate associate head coach who was a great x’s and O’s guy who could really serve as a mentor and sounding board for Luke. And replacement if needed although that doesn’t mean a coach like Ty Lue, Jason Kidd, or Mark Jackson, who would all undermine Luke. I’m talking about someone who would be supportive of Luke and content not to undermine him.

Our FT per game marginally went up this year from 23.6 to 23.3.

It’s not just that we’ve missed a lot and left points off the board, our shot selection has been questionable.

That goes beyond coaching to, flow of the game, matchups….we need to be smarter collectively.

LeBron (7.44) and Brandon (5.24) are both in the Top 30 FTA per game.

What’s startling is as a team, we’re 12th in Attempts (23.6) and 2 players account for half that.

Some of our guys are afraid to attack the paint because they suck at Free Throws.

Let’s say we averaged as a team around 75% FT…

Taking into account our Pt differential…we’ve left 175 points off the board.

That’s almost 3 points per game. Factor that into W-L Ratio…because of our poor FT shoooting…we should have 35 wins at this point.

-7 in the Win Column because of just Free Throws.

35 wins would make us the 4th seed not the 10th seed.

When you take into account our pt differential that’s huge.

Of the 5 players who’ve shot over 100 FTs (McGee, Kuzma, KCP, Ingram, LeBron) only 2 have shot over 75%

Zo is afraid of taking contact. He’s petrified to go to the Line.

He hasn’t even gotten to 100 FTs.

              Ball has 48 FTA.

              Attacks the paint, my a*s.

            • LakerTom (Publisher) 4:28 PM on February 20, 2019 Permalink

Before he was injured, Lonzo Ball was not only attacking the rim more but also finishing at a higher rate. This was something that was reported and discussed many times.

While there were times earlier in the year when Lonzo appeared hesitant to attack the rim for fear of going to the line, there were zero indications that was happening the last month he played.

I’m not excusing Zo’s terrible shooting from the line or the fact that he obviously hates to be there but I don’t that was affecting his game recently and hopefully it won’t when he returns.

Having said that, it’s hard to imagine Luke keeping him on the floor to finish a close game until he shows he can shoot a reasonable percentage from the line. That won’t be until next year.

            • mclyne32 (Director) 5:10 PM on February 20, 2019 Permalink

How can anyone look at Lonzo’s fear of attacking the rim and claim he could be a Laker great???
Yes, he did start attacking the rim more before he went down but this is a real issue. You will never find this attribute in any former, current, or future great. I like the kid, but there are just too many red flags about him for me to consider him our long term solution at the point.
“If he fixes his jumper, he’ll be great.”
“If he can learn to drive fearlessly to the rim, he will be great.”
“If he can shoot 70% from the free throw line, he will be great.”
“If he can stay healthy, he will be great.”
Way too many questions that aren’t being answered.

      Luke is gone this summer.
The only way he has a chance as if LeBron vouches for him.

Too bad DAR had to screw up his Laker career by doing Swaggy dirty. He proved me wrong by turning into a good PG.
Can Lonzo do the same? He might, but like Icewater Boy, he will be trying this in a different uni next season.

With an average of 48 percent from deep this year, and 41.5 percent since his arrival at North Carolina, Johnson not only has the ability to be a spot up shooter, but has greatly improved his shooting ability off of ball screens or dribble pull-ups.

According to ESPN’s Jonathon Givony, Johnson averages 1.429 points per possession on spot-up attempts, which is a major plus for NBA rosters and the spread out offensive possessions seen every game.

Not only has his three-point percentage increased, but his mid-range, pull-up game is also improving. Shooting 57 percent on two’s this season, the addition of a mid-range shot has evolved his game.

Another addition Johnson can bring to an NBA roster, and why his stock is rising, is his increased defensive potential.

Averaging a career best 97.6 defensive rating, over four points better than his previous best, Johnson’s length and additional quickness has allowed him to guard multiple positions.
