Another awesome performance on the second game of a back-to-back. Putting this out there for the followers of Lakerholics.net. Which win was more impressive, the win at Utah or Denver? Would love to hear your thoughts!

I agree with both of you. Utah’s struggles and the fact that Denver had yesterday’s game clearly marked on the schedule in the hopes to gain ground in the Western Conference make it my choice as well.

Thought we looked tired in Denver and still won. At Utah was a back to back win. Two excellent games.

The big question is can the Lakers avoid losing two games in a row as promised by LeBron James and Anthony Davis and sweep a three-game roadie that includes a Nuggets/Jazz back-to-back Tuesday and Wednesday. I say yes. Gerald says no. What say you?

Solid podcast guys. I do think we’re under-emphasizing the impact the veterans we brought in is having. We brought in guys with All Defensive caliber potential and know-how. Frank’s done a great job in getting the squad to buy in, and that’s reflected back at us from the players comments we’re reading. If anything, my personal take on the job Frank Vogel has done is giving him credit for his own personal evolution. He’s gone from an old school, archaic approach (especially on offense) to the NBA and done a great job of blending his philosophies with how the modern NBA operates.

All in all, one way or another, there’s no denying the team is off to a great start and that Frank and the staff are big parts of this early success.

      Some hypotheticals:

-IF (big if, in my opinion) Andre Iguodala were to negotiate an acceptable buyout and IF he were to choose the Lakers, whose minutes would he take? Hard to see All 4 of Davis, James, Kuzma and Iggy sharing the floor for any real length of time.

-What are y’all thoughts on the apparent lack of offensive sets installed, up to this point, by Frank Vogel. To the eye it looks like there are roughly 3 sets that they run in various forms: double-screen high, pick and roll from the top of the key, dump it down to AD into the post. Not saying that these aren’t solid plays (and I’m not including drawn up inbounds plays, either) but we have so many guys who feel like they’d be good at cutting off of screens by our bigs that it feels like a waste not to use that aspect of the game.

-Whose minutes does Rondo absorb when he comes back, in your opinions?

      • mclyne32 (Director) 3:34 PM on November 7, 2019 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Iggy ain’t coming. If he miraculously makes his way here, it would seem like Kuz’s minutes will dramatically dip. On the other hand, our offense is the area that needs a boost- not our D. I’m of the belief that we don’t need Iggy. We just need out guys to hit more of their wide open shots, and for Kuz to be Kuz.
Great point about cutting, Jamie. This is one of the ways Kuz gets a lot of his buckets. It makes zero sense to me also that we don’t have more off ball movement when either AD or LeBron are posting up.
I’m fine with Rondo taking all of KFC’s minutes. At lease he can get other guys buckets and make an occasional shot.

No disrespect to Anthony, but choosing the Lakers as fifth seed just smacks of an orphan little brother who still has dreams of being able to beat up his big brother. The West is going to be a battle between the Lakers and Clippers just like the East will be between the Sixers and Bucks.

I also find it odd that you are both too concerned about injuries to LeBron or AD, neither of whom has ever had a major injury in their careers, especially when the Clippers two stars both have very recent history of missing the entire season due to major injuries. Both teams need to stay healthy but history says it’s the Clippers who really need to worry about major injuries and prioritize load management.

Glad to see you listened to the show LakerTom. I believe both teams have to be concerned about injuries. But I will be glad to discuss with you further next time we go live on the air. Overall both LA teams are better suited for postseason and I do see great success for the Lakers (providing LeBron and AD stay healthy and play 65+ games) this season.

It takes a Laker Hater/Clipper Homer of an unbelievable level to drop the Lakers to 5th behind the frauds that are the Clips/Rockets/Blazers/Nuggets. Talent, top to bottom, I just don’t see the Rockets and Blazers anywhere near the Lakers level. The Clips are maybe on par, and this year will prove if the Nuggs overachieved or not. Honestly, I can see the Blazers and Rockets falling out of the playoffs, much less a top 4 team. The Nuggs have one A- star on their squad, and a bunch of other dudes. They’re the Paul Milsap Hawks all over again, just Milsap is old now. How many times we gotta see Pringles flounder before we close the book on him? The Clips are still a fugazi until proven otherwise.

All these prognosticators need to forget about what they wish will happen to the Lakers and take a look at reality. The rest of the west is playing for 2nd place.

Glad to see your enthusiasm therealhtj. I am glad you listened to the show and got to hear our thoughts. I sincerely hope you are correct in your assessment of the team in the regular season and what I believe will come to fruition in the playoffs. I have listened to a substantial amount of shows over the past few days of season previews and 3rd to 5th seems to be where most reporters have the team because of either depth, health or load management concerns. The one through-line consistently, however, is that winner in the west will come from Los Angeles and those in Vegas have warmed up to the Lakers as well. Looking forward to a great season with the Lakers this year and I know every one of the Lakerholics are as well.

Lakers, Jazz, Nuggets, Clips battle for the #1 seed. It’s all jumbled at the top.

Given the fact, unlike the East, we end up cannibalizing each other. It’s gonna be 5 yards and a cloud of dust with positioning.

Being that we have yet to play a meaningful game this is all guess work and balderdash but since you asked:

      Nuggets
      Clippers
      Lakers
      Trailblazers
      Jazz
      Rockets
      Warriors
      Dallas

This season will see the Spurs forced to rebuild, or so I hope, Minnesota realize they needed a guy like Jimmy to whup a$$ in practice and Phoenix start to hear internal rumblings that Booker wants out. Sacramento will be right there but fall a bit short.

Lakers in a landslide provided they’re healthy. Nuggs and Clipps have been so overrated for what? PG will miss the first 20 games, and Kawhi another 25 cuz of his “load.” Nuggs shot themselves in the foot with the Murray overpay. They’ll need to start trimming salary soon. Portland getting a little too excited cuz they made a conference finals they never had a shot in because of lucky seeding. Jazz a bunch of “What the hell have any of those guys ever won?” guys.

      • LakerTom (Publisher) 1:01 PM on October 18, 2019 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Stan, I think you are right on about Clippers and Nuggets being overrated. Clippers last year eon just 9 more games than Lakers who were crippled with major injuries to their entire starting lineup.

        • therealhtj

therealhtj 1:36 PM on October 18, 2019 Permalink | Log in to Reply

I also think Harris, SGA, and Gallo played quite the role in getting a majority of those wins and they’re all gone now. Obviously Kawhi and PG make up for the majority of that production, but neither is going to play 70+ games this year, maybe not even 60.

Everyone harps on the Clip’s depth, but really? Lou is about that age now when high volume little dudes start to fall off. Trez is limited. Shamet? WGAF about a Shamet?

Same with the Nuggs. Remind me of those Memphis teams that made a bit of noise and were testy in the playoffs, but ultimately went nowhere. If they got shut down by a fictitious Portland team, wtf they gonna do against Bron and AD?

And Tom’s leadership from the perspective of allowing free speech while respecting geopolitical and cultural respect a delicate matter should be an example to other, not only Sports Blogs but all blogs as well.

The game today showed Kostas and Zach Norvell Jr. are good prospects and will more development could contribute after time in the D-League. It’s obvious why they’re both our Two-Way dudes. Development staff and Rob made good calls again.
