Great podcast, Gerald. Excellent discussion regarding the positives the Lakers can take from standing pat at the trade deadline and what to make of the buyout market.

Good work again! But the “at this point in time” count was off the charts. I’m thinking of adding a drinking game around it, but I don’t wanna end up in the emergency room.

I hope everybody will give this podcast a listen. It was all about Kobe Bryant and what he meant to Gerald and me and Lakers fans on this site and everywhere in the world. I talked a lot about how Kobe and Gigi’s passing resonated so personally with me because of my relationships with my granddaughters. We talked about Kobe’s great career, how he may end up inspiring this Lakers team to greatness, and how his death will have a lasting impact on everything Lakers starting with how the Lakers finish this season.

We will launch a brand new Lakerholics site within the next 30 days and it will be dedicated to Kobe Bean Bryant. I think Gerald and I do a good job podcasting about the Lakers. While it’s a time when all of us are sad and devastated, I thought we did a great job and the podcast was very cathartic. Please give it a listen. We hope it will help you break through this tough situation and give you hope that Kobe will always be with us. In fact, I think he will be in our hearts and souls for every day for the rest of our lives. Thank you.

I’m glad you two were able to share your thoughts. It was cathartic.

As long as the Mamba Mentality lives on, so does Kobe.

Not sure if anyone saw the Fox Sports interview Kobe did…He was asked “100 years from now, a father and daughter are walking past Staples Center, she points at your statue and says ‘Who is that?’ He paused slyly grinned and said ‘The Black Mamba!’.

His HOF ceremony better be goat. Or NBA fans we’re gonna go apeshit.

What were you doing when you heard?

            • LakerTom (Publisher) 12:54 PM on January 28, 2020 Permalink

I was sitting at my dining room table with my laptop finishing the substitution schedule for my granddaughter’s CYO basketball game that afternoon and had just checked Twitter before packing up to go to the game.

I couldn’t believe it when I saw the report. I don’t think I’ve cried when somebody I didn’t personally know died since JFK and RFK. All I could think of was watching Kobe and Gigi at the Lakers game last week.

That afternoon, I ended up hugging my granddaughter as she and I scouted two teams we would play down the road, tears in our eyes, as we did exactly what Kobe and Gigi did at the Lakers game.

It was so gratifying to see the chemistry between LeBron and Kobe and know they talked Saturday after LeBron took over #3 in career points from Kobe. My last memory of Kobe is of him smiling and happy.

LeBron has accepted the challenge and promised he is going to continue Kobe’s legacy. Kobe’s last gift to Lakers fans is going to be the motivation to play like Mamba that will take us to our 17th championship.

I was making a new blend of Coffee, went outside while it cooled and luckily I was in an altered state so I thought it wasn’t true at first. I found it was true, you hope it’s just a runaway error.

I haven’t felt my heart sink to the floor, since my dad died, Tom. And like you, I didn’t know him from atom’s house cat and I cried.

Blessing in disguise to have a job in times like these. Helps keep you occupied.

As a LeBron fan, his legacy has changed forever. He will retire a Laker. Guaranteed, it’s ubiquitous amongst LeBronians.

And while he may not be on the roster, his legacy lights the way this year and LeBron understands the Game has Changed.

I want to see LeBron and Jeanie hugging with the Trophy saying “This one’s for Kobe.

However it shakes out. Lakers and Bucks should be in the Finals. It’s only righteous outcome as far as Basketball is concerned.

              Great comment, Sean.
That’s going to be the mantra for this team.
“This one’s for Kobe!” It will be his Jordan tying 6th championship and the Lakers should give his ring to Vanessa and the girls.

Your Boston friend jinxed us Gerald.

      • Lakers Fast Break 9:45 PM on January 20, 2020 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Tom and I did say the team would go 4-1 on the road trip. We just were not sure where the one would be. Let’s get it out of the system now and I have a feeling they will take their frustrations out on the Knicks like everyone else does. It was nice though to hear an outside position see many of the same things we do when it comes to the Lakers and just how really good they are (tonight notwithstanding).

        • LakerTom (Publisher) 8:29 AM on January 21, 2020 Permalink | Log in to Reply

I originally thought the 76ers would be the toughest team but when you look at the talent, the Celtics showed they shouldn’t be underestimated. They were in a funk and nothing better in the world to get them out of it than a game against the Lakers. Time to start a three-game winning streak and to finish the Grammy trip 4-1 like Gerald and I predicted. We need three dominating blow outs to flush the taste of the Celtics out of our system. No pity or mercy for the Knicks, Nets, and 76ers. But Gerald and Chuck still might have jinxed us. :-)

Is This a Trade Worth Making For the Lakers?

I know LakerTom has been playing around with possible trade scenarios for the team and while editing the latest Lakers Fast Break podcast (coming Tuesday) I looked for a deal that may be reachable for the Lakers. Thoughts?

Good Morning, Gerald! Merry Christmas to you and your family! Cheers!

That’s not a bad lateral move. D-Rose has been having a renaissance type of year.

He’s more of a gunner now. Can distribute but it’s not where his value lies. Morris also a good player, tough nosed defender on the wing, not the shot maker we necessarily need.

Detroit is a funny team. They’re not horrible enough to be a Lottery team but not good enough to be a marginal playoff team. Griffin as sad as it is, is not the player he once was, he will be lucky to play 60 games in a full season again.

The Wizards? Bertans is a great player and beside Rui, I don’t see them trading him unless there’s an offer that blows them away…won’t include us.

Magic’s Evan Fournier…seems like an obvious fit…has a reasonable contract…will likely opt-out because he has a player option and wants more. He’s a good fit for the offense considering he has a history with Frank Vogel’s system.

Then again, Orlando is one of the few teams stuck in the middle, they don’t have a superstar, a lot of good young players that need some vet leadership.

      We’re soon gonna find out.

I think this trade is pretty good. It gives as a PG who can slash and dish. It also fits perfectly with our two year timeline.

He also has an injury history that can devalue his impact.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. I know our goals may be higher when it comes to trade targets, but with the limited assets we have this might be our ceiling until the buyout market hits.
