I actually thought my trade proposals were reasonable but Gerald thought they were crazy. The big difference is I think teams are going to be very concerned about slashing payroll expenses since revenues are going to crater due to the economy crashing from coronavirus. Several owners are also going to see their core oil, hotel, and cruise business suffer mightily. When the going gets tough, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. That should benefit the Lakers who will have Kuzma, their 2020 and 2015 first round picks, and $20 million in expiring contracts to try and add a third superstar, whom they could then also parlay into a possible sign-and-trade for Giannis the following offseason.

Lakers Fast Break- Give That Money Back, Lakers! with LakerTom

LakerTom from lakerholics.net is back for his weekly chat with Gerald as the guys discuss the team’s poor decision-making in obtaining a loan from the Paycheck Protection Program designed to help small businesses. We talk about how disappointing this is and the fallout that could arise from it. There’s also talk about the rising number of comparisons being made between LeBron James and Michael Jordan after ESPN’s “The Last Dance” just how LeBron would fare playing in the ’80s and ’90s against the Bulls dynasty and how LeBron has transformed the opinions of many Lakers fans since his arrival to Los Angeles. All this and as the whispers of possible practice facilities re-opening becomes a possibility, the guys reflect about how this is a promising sign for a possible return to the NBA season. it’s embarrassing that the Lakers who have the second greatest value and greatest revenue of all 30 NBA teams are the only one we know of who applied for and got a PPP loan. Whomever was responsible for tht decision should be severely reprimanded or even fired in my opinion.

He’s making 39%. That’s really good. He only takes 3.5 per game.

He’s in a limited role from season’s prior. I actually thought he was playing as well as could be expected given his new role on the team. My biggest takeaway was that he seems to do better in a more limited role (less ball handling, less decision-making responsibilities) and he and Dwight have a nice synergy.

I did not mean it any kind of a racial slur or such, that’s not me at all. I was thinking in terms of half-baked. Like I said he played hard, but just wasn’t what I thought we were getting, too streaky, but he showed up big an many occasions. I even thought at times why don’t we give some of these guys 35 minutes per and see what we got. It’s hard to play 20 minutes and get a rhythm.

I believe KCP has earned his $8M salary this year and will either be a valuable contributor next year or a valuable trading chip to improve our roster. That was not true his first two years with the team but he no longer deserves the disrespect as being overpaid and was an important factor in LeBron James joining this team. Being a Klutch client likely makes it unlikely that KCP will be traded because he is part of a family that includes LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Doesn’t mean he won’t be but it’s a factor that works in his favor to remain in purple and gold.

This was a fun podcast with Gerald and me. Aside from a little optimism about the coronavirus pandemic, there’s a lot of fun talk about the Lakers mastering the art of acquiring superstars and how they actually went about it. 5 via trades, 4 via draft, and 2 via free agency. Although three of the trades – Wilt, Kareem, and AD – were trades where superstar centers forced their current teams to trade for the Lakers. Give a listen and give us a 5-star review. Lakers Fast Break has been a great supporter for Lakerholics.Net. Please show similar support for Gerald Glassford and Lakers Fast Break. Thanks.

That’s Gerald Glassford of Lakers Fast Break with mask, gloves, and a Lakers hat and jacket being interviewed as he’s in a proper ‘social distancing’ line waiting to get into Costco to get supplies for his family. Thanks Magicman. I just hope everyone will take this seriously. I know there’s a lot of rhetoric about media overhype, hoax, go live your life, etc. etc. Even for those non-believers or those who don’t take it seriously, humor the rest of us and start doing the things needed in these times to help others. The best that can happen is that it blows over with minimal effects from here on out. But as Italy has learned, as they didn’t take it seriously soon enough, this is something that could be with us for a very long time and we should work together to make everyone safe and healthy.

Join Gerald and me for a short discussion of the implications of how the coronavirus could affect the rest of the season as well as the salary cap and luxury tax situation in subsequent years. The virus’ impact on our society, economy, politics, and sports leagues is not going to be just a short-term speed bump. It’s going to have a significant long-term impact.

Thanks again to Gerald for all the positive support for Lakerholics.Net. Let’s pay back that love with everybody listening and giving us a 5-star review so we can increase listeners to the podcast and visitors to this website. Thank you and keep healthy and safe.
