Thanks, GDub. The most difficult part for me was convincing myself that my life was worth more than any other life there, which allowed me to enter into a “kill or be killed” mode, which quickly morphed into a “kill first” mode. It was the only way to control the effects if being scared to death. Was taught to “channel my fears, and use them to my advantage.

Blocking the memories of what I saw remains the second hardest thing.

From above article posted by GDUB:

Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook has a standing contract offer from the team that he will reportedly hold off on signing.

USA Today’s Sam Amick reported Saturday that Westbrook isn’t expected to sign a five-year, $217 million extension with the Thunder right away but that it will remain on the table until he does or the deadline to sign it expires at the start of the 2017-18 season.

ESPN.com’s Royce Young reported Saturday one reason for Westbrook’s delay is the presence of the newly acquired Paul George, since both players could become free agents after next season.

Amick noted Westbrook is a “happy superstar” following the Thunder’s surprise acquisition of George.

Love Russ, but don’t want him. His game hinges on his unparalleled athleticism. Considering his usage and his years and absolutely insane effort he plays with, I feel like he is going to hit the wall hard in the next 3 years.

        • LakerTom (Publisher) 12:23 PM on July 3, 2017 Permalink | Log in to Reply

I kind of feel the same way mainly because of his usage percentage. But it would be hard as a UCLA/Lakers guy to say no to RW. He is such a talent that you probably are thrilled with the opportunity to figure out how to make it work. I mean we’re talking about the MVP. Great problem to have.

However, I think there are better options to make the Lakers a better team and better matchup against the Warriors, like DeMarcus Cousins or even getting two players to with PG than another max player.

For example, I would love to see how good a Lakers team with George Hill and Brook Lopez would be this year. Maybe all you need is to add PG to this team and have Lonzo and Brandon and Ivica reach their potential.

          • mclyne32 (Director) 12:34 PM on July 3, 2017 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Kobe changed his game as the years piled on and he was able to win two Chips after 12 years of mileage.
Russ would have the added advantage of having Kobe being available to show him how.

I don’t wanna pile on D’Lo, but I think that part of the reason some fans r beginning to lose patience is bcuz he hasn’t come close to living up to all the hype he received upon being chosen as the #2 overall pick for a team that was in desperate need of a savior. Unfair expectations? Probably, but that sorta comes with the territory, I guess. Didn’t help that so many writers and bloggers kept insisting on overhyping him despite all the evidence pointing to him being a disappoinment. Still, I wanna give him another season to prove himself worthy of all that hype b4 I’ll be ready to move on. Here’s hopin’ he’ll convince all his detractors that they were just a bit too quick to judge.

Expectations and Laker fans have been a bad matchup these last coupla years : ). I remember when the 2015 draft was approaching, and the hype was swirling, I was intrigued by this Okafor kid. Looked real promising, even though I’d never seen him play. Then we heard a little bit about Russell, but I’d never seen him either. So when they picked D’Angelo, I figured he must be really good to go #2, but he’s just a freshman, that’s awfully young to turn a losing team around.

So here we are, nearly 2 years later, we’re still in the cellar, and looking for more help. We all want to find the next Kobe, or Magic, or Shaq, but it’s real hard to be patient with all those trophies on the shelf and banners in the rafters. But it is what it is, and you have to keep hoping.

Or go nuts and punch a hole in the wall : ).

I was all for Okafor but glad now we didn’t draft him. Dlo has some skills but I’m not sure he has the work ethics and drive to go with it. There those who talk a big talk but can’t seem to deliver. The hype may have come mostly from the front office trying to justify their selection and also the media pundits and experts who proclaimed him as the second best talent. Dlo is also partly responsible with his ice in veins thingie but thats just brash youth talking.

However, like Gdub, I ain’t ready to write him off just yet. He should get another year to further develop and mature. I consider his first year as wasted because no way a 19 year old could impose his will on a team with veterans and a fading star like Kobe. Kobe was the ultimate alpha. This is the first season for Dlo to learn to be a leader. That debacle with Nick Young caused a dent in his credibility with the veterans. So one more year is reasonable enough for us to watch him grow.

I would keep this core together one more year.

Yes GDUB, but, they hammer Kobe as usual. Let me at least point our facts. Kobe averaged 16 shots per in 66 games. Russ averaged 12 shots per in 80 games. Both averaged 28 minutes per. Russ was a Rookie, mind you, but Kobe playing didn’t hold him back. Russ is averaging less minutes per game this year and his shooting FG % is down from last year. The only one holding Russ back is Russ.

Hey DJ, I agree about the Kobe arc, not here anymore, his presence or lack thereof is irrelevant to the process right now…

Zach is 100% right…about the D…it took the Dubs 3 years to be a consistent group, it takes time to be a good defender…Unfortunately for us…Larry is our only quick study as a young defender…great joke about Roy. Lol…

So, it’s gonna be like pulling teeth unless the rest of them figure out quicker than expected, how to play 48 minutes defensively…seems like they got the mindset for one side of the court at one time…which means inconsistent effort.

It’s a ride…bumpy, might be uneven speeds but we’ll get there.

Well, I think we saw the high of their fluctuation. Just as likely to put up 8/6 in the next one. Either one.

Agree with mud, could be the right player away but that player isn’t likely to be available in free agency, so trades make more and more sense.

Perhaps, but trades r a gamble, too … no guarantee that they’ll necessarily pay off.

right. when the opportunity comes, grab it, but until then, this is it. there’s no need to do something just because people are in a hurry to do something.

Personally don’t expect any trades, but if we’re spit ballin…

With the amount of injuries the lakers have had this year I don’t feel sorry for any team. We’ve lost a lot of games because we’ve been short handed. Now the Clippers can feel our pain.

Were they injured or just sittin’ for rest?

Looks like it actually was injuries.

BTW, I think they’ve lost games more due to their poor D than due to the injuries, but that’s just me, I guess.

I think it’s a combination of both, but the injuries dimished scoring as well as magnified defensive flaws. The D tonight was engaged for the most part. Offense was effective, as well. 7 players in double figures. Jordan Clarkson still an enigma.

Can see Mozgov and Deng knocking on DJ’s front door and saying [in unison] “How you like me now?!”

Perhaps, but even when we were completely healthy we were giving up a ton of points, we were just able to ‘outscore’ some of our opponents.

Wins are wins. Vets played real well, that explains a lot. Silly mistakes were few in the 2nd half.

Poor D and unforced turnovers are key culprits in most of our losses. Injuries will always be a part of it, like fouls, they generally come out evenish.

Ingram could be “that guy.” Just gotta be patient, of course. Can be a hard sell in Lakerland….

Sorry I missed the Christmas wishes yesterday--happy belated, everyone.

I agree concerning Brandon, JM … I’m all in on being patient with him.
