I don’t wanna pile on D’Lo, but I think that part of the reason some fans r beginning to lose patience is bcuz he hasn’t come close to living up to all the hype he received upon being chosen as the #2 overall pick for a team that was in desperate need of a savior. Unfair expectations? Probably, but that sorta comes with the territory, I guess. Didn’t help that so many writers and bloggers kept insisting on overhyping him despite all the evidence pointing to him being a disappoinment. Still, I wanna give him another season to prove himself worthy of all that hype b4 I’ll be ready to move on. Here’s hopin’ he’ll convince all his detractors that they were just a bit too quick to judge.

Expectations and Laker fans have been a bad matchup these last coupla years : ). I remember when the 2015 draft was approaching, and the hype was swirling, I was intrigued by this Okafor kid. Looked real promising, even though I’d never seen him play. Then we heard a little bit about Russell, but I’d never seen him either. So when they picked D’Angelo, I figured he must be really good to go #2, but he’s just a freshman, that’s awfully young to turn a losing team around.

So here we are, nearly 2 years later, we’re still in the cellar, and looking for more help. We all want to find the next Kobe, or Magic, or Shaq, but it’s real hard to be patient with all those trophies on the shelf and banners in the rafters. But it is what it is, and you have to keep hoping.

Or go nuts and punch a hole in the wall : ).

Sure GDUB. I hope no one wants (well Laker fans we are) the kids to fail. They do need time. I just wasn’t ever on board with Deng and Moz. That may hurt us for a while still. We got kids, play those kids. Gotta go watch that Tatum kid. Later

I was all for Okafor but glad now we didn’t draft him. Dlo has some skills but I’m not sure he has the work ethics and drive to go with it. There those who talk a big talk but can’t seem to deliver. The hype may have come mostly from the front office trying to justify their selection and also the media pundits and experts who proclaimed him as the second best talent. Dlo is also partly responsible with his ice in veins thingie but thats just brash youth talking.

However, like Gdub, I ain’t ready to write him off just yet. He should get another year to further develop and mature. I consider his first year as wasted because no way a 19 year old could impose his will on a team with veterans and a fading star like Kobe. Kobe was the ultimate alpha. This is the first season for Dlo to learn to be a leader. That debacle with Nick Young caused a dent in his credibility with the veterans. So one more year is reasonable enough for us to watch him grow.

I would keep this core together one more year.

Jeanie supposedly did not agree with his vision of the Lakers.
I’m guessing he was a lot more pessimistic about how long it would take.
His age also has to be a factor. It was the right decision by Jeanie imo.

Yes GDUB, but, they hammer Kobe as usual. Let me at least point our facts. Kobe averaged 16 shots per in 66 games. Russ averaged 12 shots per in 80 games. Both averaged 28 minutes per. Russ was a Rookie, mind you, but Kobe playing didn’t hold him back. Russ is averaging less minutes per game this year and his shooting FG % is down from last year. The only one holding Russ back is Russ.

Hey DJ, I agree about the Kobe arc, not here anymore, his presence or lack thereof is irrelevant to the process right now…

Zach is 100% right…about the D…it took the Dubs 3 years to be a consistent group, it takes time to be a good defender…Unfortunately for us…Larry is our only quick study as a young defender…great joke about Roy. Lol…

So, it’s gonna be like pulling teeth unless the rest of them figure out quicker than expected, how to play 48 minutes defensively…seems like they got the mindset for one side of the court at one time…which means inconsistent effort.

It’s a ride…bumpy, might be uneven speeds but we’ll get there.

sure, but this just shows that the Lakers are really just a player or two away from being a true contender. they’re not a bad team, but they do have some growing to do.

it was great seeing Deng and Mozgov contribute. DeAndre and his freaky athleticism didn’t destroy Mozgov. for this game, i’d say Mozgov got the better of the battle.

I think it’s a combination of both, but the injuries dimished scoring as well as magnified defensive flaws. The D tonight was engaged for the most part. Offense was effective, as well. 7 players in double figures. Jordan Clarkson still an enigma.

Can see Mozgov and Deng knocking on DJ’s front door and saying [in unison] “How you like me now?!”

Wins are wins. Vets played real well, that explains a lot. Silly mistakes were few in the 2nd half.

Poor D and unforced turnovers are key culprits in most of our losses. Injuries will always be a part of it, like fouls, they generally come out evenish.

actually, the Lakers need a guy initialed JC or DR who can keep opposing guards in front of them. a rim protector won’t help if the big has to defend three players at once.

I gotta admit, that one made me LOL, Deej. : D

More importantly, your son will never have an 8 game losing streak. #BornWinner

Well, they need to put the ball in the basket a lil better next half … from both the FT line AND from beyond the arc.

This roadie could turn into a major skid, hope the team can turn things around. Would hate to see them begin to lose confidence … that’s is, if they haven’t already begun to.

Nah G…I meant yes, they will lose confidence. A lot. Skin gets thin…I myself am having some problems enjoying Randle playing. When he’s on the court, I feel some kind of…I don’t know. I’m just so tired of those TO

Yeah, MP … Julius has seemed to have taken a step back in his progress over the past several games. Not sure if that hip injury may still be an issue for him, but, if so, he may need to sit out for a few games.

It sure started with some fireworks, eh? 6 technical fouls. Coach tossed in the first quarter. Then we never really made it out of the locker room after half time. Coming back to Earth a little hard after a lofty flight. There are some very winnable games, need to put in that full 48.

Just started watching. First quarter was brutal. The turnovers are just silly, mindless turnovers and it’s not just the kids. Injuries knocked our mojo off kilter and some guys have really come back down to Earth hard. Randle has stopped finishing so well, Ingram isn’t shooting better yet, vets are still disappointing. Our defense has really slipped in the last two plus weeks. Little things we were focused on doing early have faded to the way side. Mainly the man in the paint rotating to cover the roll man in our pick and roll D. Also our transition D suffers. Some guys are still getting OK defensive stats but the effectiveness of it has decreased.

But they have grit which is hard to teach. They have a good core of talent that is still figuring it out on many different levels and best of all our vets can’t play much worse. Might be time for a D-League call up, see if a little bounce can be found from a chance to shine. That second unit had it figured out and I’m leery of it losing cohesion. Ingram has bursts of showing he could be special. Injuries are always a learning experience and can open as many doors as they close. So far we haven’t risen to the challenge.

Good post, JS … with some good analysis. I really only watched bits and pieces of the game so that’s kinda y I made this post. Even with the limited amount of action I was able to take in, it was pretty evident they were outmatched from the opening to the final buzzers.

They showed some spirit but were just out-gunned. Missing a lot of pieces on a team that needs all of them to play above average basketball to win on most nights. Getting Nance back was key but we need to get that second unit back together or find a different mix of guys that work. Getting down huge in the first just makes every game a war and that makes an already long season drag.

Anyhow, sounds like we’ll get Nick back soon. That ought to help shore up the scoring and spacing issues we have with so few shooters. Throw in the NBA single game-high turnovers and voila! Blow out loss.

Coming back to Earth is expected, every NBA team hits a wall or two, it’s how you push through that begins to define a team’s greatness. These guys are good but can they stay together over the long haul or will we see it devolve into more iso’s or quick threes like last season.

Hoping we get some guys back soon. I think we can win on Friday, if we take the Suns seriously and stop turning the dang ball over we’ll have a chance against most teams.

Hmmm, the reigning champs with a few chinks in the armor with back to back losses in the early season as they fall to the Bulls tonight after going down to the Clips last night.
