Here’s your answer, DJ. This is why Mongo always points out how tough it would be to outbid the Celtics for Paul George. If the rumors are true that Paul George has told the Lakers not to trade for him because he is coming to LA no matter what, there is no reason for Danny Ainge to gamble on keeping Paul George.
Ainge may well fill the small forward spot this summer with Gordon Hayward via free agency and then go after Butler, Westbrook or Cousins. Good as he is, Paul George isn’t better than the guys on that list. Why take an unnecessary risk when there are as good of better options without the risk. All the GMs know this. PG is driving.
That’s obviously why the Lakers are in the driver’s seat. I do believe their will be a trade this summer but it will be just above a rental price because the Lakers will be the only bidders and Bird will find out he waited too long to make a deal. Should have done it when Magic first called. This time the best he will get will be Clarkson, Brewer, and the #28 pick.

I could live with that trade or wait. Perhaps Westy and George and Cousins want to form a Superteam after 2018? I know we couldn’t afford, but….

Indy would be better off just clearing PG’s cap space next summer than accepting that trade..

MS-I am in Indyland and if they just let PG walk, ain’t nobody coming to Indy, whether they have money or not.

We could have had something similar to this if we had a GM with half a brain running the show when we had All Star players to trade for picks.
