Not so fast, Lonzo: Report says Lakers could look at Kentucky’s De’Aaron Fox

When the Los Angeles Lakers ended up with the second overall pick after Tuesday night’s NBA Draft Lottery, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that Magic Johnson would pick Lonzo Ball.

Besides, the tall point guard could usher in a new era of showtime to Laker Nation in his own image.

However, Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress, one of the leading NBA draft analysts, said the decision to take Ball is not a given, as a member of Big Blue Nation could be a hurdle into LaVar Ball’s plans of world domination through his son and the Lakers.

De’Aaron Fox, who dominated Ball in their head-to-head meeting in the NCAA Tournament with a 39-point effort in a regional semifinal game, is reportedly on Magic’s radar for that No. 2 pick.

Our SEC Country projections still have Ball going No. 2 to the Lakers (as does DraftExpress, for that matter).

Ball reportedly won’t work out for anyone but the Lakers, but will he work out with anyone while working out with the Lakers?

Bill Simmons of The Ringer is probably right here… don’t hold your breath.

For his part, LaVar Ball did say that Lonzo Ball would do a one-on-one workout with Fox, and said he hoped members of the media would be there, too.

It’s an interesting storyline to keep an eye on as the draft draws closer, and ESPN.com’s Chad Ford said Fox is rising up boards and could pass Ball.
