Maybe Isaac Bonga is what the Lakers need instead of making a midseason trade
Man, the Lakers 2018 No. 39 overall pick, the just-turned-19 🇩🇪 @IsaacBonga, has been very impressive of late… https://t.co/0oN9uMF4wG

The @SouthBayLakers beat the Salt Lake City Stars 107-92. Isaac Bonga once again impressed with a game high 25 points (5/9 from three) 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and a block in 36 minutes of action.

Could happen, all he can do is keep learning, producing and waiting for his shot.

That depends. Who the Lakers trading for?

Then again, maybe not. I honestly believe that Luke and the front office no more about the timing of throwing Bonga into the fire than the fans do.

Mike T. is pretty savvy, I rank his opinions above most fans. Certainly higher than Chris Broussard or Stephen A. Smith. Having said that, yes. I think Luke and the front office are fine with Ingram backing up Ball as his secondary duty to starting. The results bear out as mostly positive. Like Wagner I expect him to get ht occasional spot minutes this season unless injuries change that equation drastically. Next year, when Rondo’s coaching and Ball is hopefully playing true start minutes and role I can easily see him as a back up and someone who could also play the 2 or even 3 at the NBA level. I hope (suspect?) he’ll get some time defending larger players in the G-League to prep him for just that. But who knows, and it is only the G-League. Our scoring champ from days of yore, Vander Blue, could never make it stick in the NBA. Something I often remind myself when I see a youngster tearing it up there.

The G-League is certainly not the NBA, Jamie. While I’ve been impressed with Bonga’s growth and development, I certainly haven’t been impressed with the G-League, which seems about par with average college basketball. The players are better but the style of play seems to be pure run and gun with little defense or strategy.
That’s why I think the Lakers need to give Bonga some run in regular season games. Hopefully, we’ll start winning games by enough points so we have some garbage time for Isaac, Moe, and Svi to get some run to show what they can contribute.

Throw him into the fire now!
Lonzo should be coming off the bench.
