5 Things I Liked

1) Got a win for my birthday! Turned 44 years young at the stroke of midnight making it the closest game to my actually day of birth. Looking forward to another trip around the son with all of you magnificent people.

2) Ingram playing solid low post defense on Towns. They switched BI onto KAT down low more than a few times and Ingram did alright helping hold Towns to a pedestrian night in the paint and even picking up a late, key offensive foul on the big man. Chipped in 20 points, 5 boards and 6 dimes to boot.

3) Laker three ball starting to fall. After a rough start from behind the arc the team picked it up more than a little last night. Led by Josh Hart (5-7), Kuzma (4-7), Ingram (2-3), and LeBron (3-9) the Lakers went 15-34 for 44.1%. Good to see and it helped soften Minnesota’s blistering 3 point shooting (20-40).

4) Fewer silly touch fouls. Minnesota shot 9 free throws (making 8) and we shot a 14 (making 11). A very reasonable rate of fouls for an NBA game. I don’t know if it’s players adjusting to the rules, the rules being relaxed a bit or maybe even just that officiating crew but it made for a nice game with a smooth flow.

5) Welcome to the Lakers Tyson Chandler. Tyson made an instant impact on the glass and gives the Lakers a consistent look down low. While we wait to see what Moe Wagner can contribute or if Zubac has another growth step in him we have two centers who play the same basic style of basketball: protect the rim, clean up the class, finish lob plays. Hopefully this helps reduce the confusion we’ve seen on defense because the scheme should really be the same whichever center sees time.

Creeping back towards .500, got a chance to get there on Saturday against the surprisingly good Sacramento Kings. Let’s get two this weekend and go Lakers!
